Elizabeth Tina Pace Maato’oohkomii, passed away on Friday November 29th, 2024, in Cardston Alberta at the age of 67 years.
Tina is survived by her siblings, Deborah, Harley, Celia, Barbara, Timothy, and Ann (Snyder)

Tina is also survived by her Maternal Aunt Mable (Richard) Fox.
Tina was predeceased by her parents Wallace and Mary Pace. Her brothers: Richard Gregory and Darryl Ryan Pace. Her maternal grandparents, Dick and Beth Soup. Her Paternal Grandparents: John Pace and Rosie English. Maternal uncles: Louis Francis Soup, Tommy Soup, Clarence Soup, Arthur Soup and Eddie Soup. Maternal Aunts: Doris Soup, Margaret Manyfingers, Gwen Healy, Beatrice Goodstriker, Jean Healy. Neice: Jalisa Pace. Nephew: Emerson (Kesley) Pace. Great nephews: Xavier and Josiah.
Tina was raised on the Blood Reserve in the North End district. Tina attended school in Lethbridge Alberta from grades one to six. The family then moved to Coaldale Alberta where Dad worked in farming and agriculture. Tina then attended school in Coaldale for a couple years. In 1969 Tina lost her big brother Richard in a car accident they then moved to Cardston Alberta where she spent the remaining years in Junior High and High School graduating in 1975. Tina would have celebrated her 50th High School reunion next year in 2025 at the Cardston High School. When Tina left school she applied to university at Brigham Young University in Provo Utah. Tina made friends far and wide from the United States and to this day she continues to remain connected to her adopted sister Linda Azure from Montana. Tina then returned home to work in various positions in the Health Care field. It was then Tina made the decision to pursue her degree in Nursing at the University Of Lethbridge graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree. Tina then was employed with the Blood Tribe Department of Health for 35 years in the area of Home Care. Tina made a point of donating yearly to the New Years baby on the Blood reserve a beautiful handmade Star Quilt and various other gifts to welcome the newest member of the tribe! Tina was also employed with Alberta Health Services working with the Cardston Hospital in the emergency and frontline which she enjoyed immensely. Tina worked right up until her illness in January of 2024.
Tina was involved with the sport of rodeo as a timer and in her younger years was a barrel racer and rough stock competitor in steer riding. Tina followed her Dad’s passion for rodeo and often commented that it was in her blood. Tina made friends with many of the rodeo competitors and took them as her rodeo family. Tina was also a member of the Senior Pro Rodeo Circuit and ribbon roped with her brother inlaw Snyder. Tina encouraged youth to get involved with rodeo and took it upon herself to seek out monies through writing grants to get sponsorship which was successful: Asitapiiks Youth Rodeo club, Blood Tribe Riding Club, Peigan Riding and Roping club. Tina was presented with a yearend buckle for her time and endless dedication to the sport of rodeo. Tina spent many of her evenings roping and riding with her ‘bestie’ her great niece Shia.
Tina was a Rodeo Timer with the IRCA, INFR, Kainai Youth Rodeo and the Blood Tribe Ag. Society Rodeo Association. Tina spent much of her spare time doing what she loved and spending long hours in the rodeo arenas. Tina travelled to Las Vegas Nevada to get her certification as a timer with the INFR. As a result, she was offered many timing gigs with Sanctioned Rodeos, Siksika, Enoch, Tssu Tina, Peigan, Polson Mt. and the Blood Reserve. Tina mentioned that she enjoyed the company of her ‘two timers’ Maxine Willows (Big Head) and Patsy Simon. She also enjoyed the company of the voice of Indian Rodeo Floyd Big Head. During Tina’s last summer of timing, she was apprenticing her niece Kaci Fox to take over her role of timing. Tina was dedicated to the sport of rodeo and was involved with the circuit for over 25 years. “She had the time of her life “in and out of the rodeo arena and built up a lifetime of memories.
Tina was an avid traveler and was always up for an adventure. Tina will forever be remembered for her unique style; she was a classy lady. Tina travelled annually to Crow Fair and was warmly welcomed by her Crow family. Tina’s travels took her to Houston Texas for the Houston Rodeo, Las Vegas Nevada to attend the NFR every December, Seattle Wa. New York City, Florida, California, North and South Dakota, Denver Co. Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Mexico, Pendleton Oregon, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Idaho. Vancouver, St. John Nfld. Toronto, Ottawa, Saskatchewan for work and pleasure. Tina often reminisced about her travels and all her happy recollections of her adventures. Tina was a huge fan of George Strait, she always managed to attend the George Strait Concerts, wherever he performed. Tina travelled to Disneyland Ca. Disneyworld Fl. Grand Canyon, with her family and special nieces Shia, Silver and Valerie. Tina’s constant travelling partner throughout her life was her sister Celia who she fondly referred to as ‘Ce’’they were inseparable! They were often referred to as “The Girls”.
Tina was very involved with all her nieces and nephews and shared a special bond with each one of them. She attended their birthday parties, graduations, and school events. Tina was our family photographer and ensured precious memories were recorded through pictures which we will forever cherish! Tina was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. Tina could also be found in the arena’s cheering on her nephew’s hockey teams, and her niece’s basketball teams. She was an avid cheerleader and their number one fan.
Tina throughout her lifetime was a caregiver and a nurturer as demonstrated by the care and compassion she had for her family and community. Tina also took care of her overall physical fitness and health. Tina was an avid long-distance marathon runner and weightlifter. In the summer of 2023 Tina joined Napi’s 20 km run for the awareness of Missing and Murder Indigenous Women
Tina you will be forever missed and forever loved. We will carry on your legacy through your family and loved ones. We are at peace in knowing that you will be reunited with Mom and Dad and your brothers Richard and Darryl. Journey well Tina! Your time on earth is done, travel well to the Rodeo arena in the sky. Free from pain that consumed your last days on earth, we thank you Tina for everything you were and all that you gave, and may you now forever rest in peace with the certain knowledge that you were, are, and will always be, dearly loved and terribly missed! Farewell.
A Wake Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston West Stake Center (846 1st Ave. West) on Friday, December 6, from 6:00 – 10:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Cardston West Stake Center (846 1st Ave. West) on Saturday, December 7 at 12:00 pm. The interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Blood Reserve.
