Our hearts said goodbye to our mom, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt on January 16, 2024. We remember her smile that went to her eyes and the way she helped us believe in ourselves because she believed in us.
Janice Marleen Workman Pilling was born on February 10, 1947, in Calgary, Alberta the eldest child of Happy (Elmer) and Thora Workman. She cherished her siblings—Brenda, Wendy, Blaine, and Randy—and set a beautiful example of strength and compassion for them. She lifted them with frequent calls of care and sharing.
In February 1967, Janice became the better-looking part of the cutest couple ever when she married Curtiss Pilling in the Cardston. Alberta temple. Together they embarked on a partnership journey that lasted nearly 57 years. They shared a deep connection of faith attending the temple, serving a full-time mission, and dedicating their time to numerous church callings they could serve together.
Janice was a patient and nurturing mother to her six children Rita (Brent Zimmerman), Stephanie (Wayne Carter), Barbara (Jesse Salmon), Pamela (Shawn Cook), David (Carolyn Walker), and Marina (Daniel Wood). We reflect her ability to love, enjoy, and bolster others. She taught us reverence, faith, and sacrifice.
Janice's beauty shone inside and out. She loved to decorate herself, her home, and her garden. She worked tirelessly to make everywhere she was bright and colorful be it with flowers or sass.
Janice loved little children. Being a Primary teacher and chorister were her favorite church callings. Her 25 grandchildren will forever be her greatest joy. She loved attending their school programs, sporting activities, and church events. She could sit for hours on the porch swing watching them run wild and enjoy each other. They will remember her back rubs, compliments, teasing, sweet songs, messages of support, and prayers.
Janice's heart found delight in country living. She held a special fondness for trips to Waterton. In younger years she enjoyed horseback riding, snowmobiling, camping, and swimming in the creek with her family.
Janice finds eternal peace as her memory continues to illuminate our lives with the love and warmth she so freely shared.
