Sandra was loved by all who knew her, she was the matriarch of our family. Raised by strong roots of our Blackfoot families, the Black Plumes, Eagle Plumes, Cat Face, Cayennes. At a young age she took it upon herself to care for her younger siblings after losing her father but guided by her grandmother Cecile. Her grandmother Cecile taught her how to be strong Blackfoot woman whom she was very close to. Sandra enjoyed her sports and had the honour of playing for the Dusters and Super Sonics in soft ball. She loved to run and enjoyed track and field. Dreamed of becoming a dancer. Sandra worked for many years at the Red Crow College with her mom and the late Christine (Beavers) Black Water as a cook and custodian. Using the skills and wisdom she learned from her grandmother who raised her. Sandra had a bond with each of her siblings especially her late brother Calvin who often came to her for advice and guidance, and her baby sister Vivian who took her as a mother and called her mom. She always helped her siblings anyway she can up until the day she died. Sandra took most of her nieces and nephews as her own and would help them as much as she can. Her nature to be a mother figure to everyone who knew her and grandmother to her great nieces and nephews. In the early 80’s she met the love of her life Gregory PlainWoman Sr. And they legally married on November 4, 1989 and travelled together all over Canada and US for church. They planned on renewing their vows on November 4, 2024 and would have been married for 35 years. The love they shared was so strong mom decided to join him 6 months later. She was very faithful to her full gospel was even in the choir for the Miracle Deliverance church and also attended Heavenly Kingdom Gospel Church before her passing. On October 28th 2021 she lost her baby who was the apple of her eye and loved and cherished him until his passing. They shared a special bond and he helped care for her until his passing. Her bond with her children was so strong like her siblings she made daily calls to them all especially her mom. Everyone called her or stopped by just to see how she was or what she was up to from a quick visit from her brother Robin, or a quick chat with one of her sisters she always made sure to keep everyone updated. They’re was nothing she wouldn’t do for her grandchildren even the ones she adopted as her own. Made sure they always had a birthday present and gift so they feel special. Even though all her children were grown she always made sure her oldest son was taken care of. She would call him to make sure he had enough food for the kids or stuff for whatever he needed.
Growing up with a mom like you, the love and caring I will miss. I'll miss every little moment I had with you, like going places and you teaching me how to be the wife and mother I am today (even when the boys are with my sister). Rest easy, Mom. I love you, and until we meet again.
It’s been about ten years since Susan, Greyson, Junebug, and in the past four years Jed have been taking care of Sandra. Every doctor’s appointment, every dialysis, every hospital stay. They were there to be by her side. She would call on Junebug or Greyson to help with her phone. Ask Jed to help clean her room and make her favourite meal. But Susan did everything even read her bible or fix something she had been wanting to do. But not just them everyone had a chance to be there for her even Burt, Cjay, and Brandon who would help with anything mom needed. She always had her door open to anyone that needed somewhere to go. Sandra was loved and cared for by all who knew and loved her and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Wake Service will be held at GLADSTONE HALL, Blood Reserve, AB on Friday, February 28 from 7:00 – 11:00 pm and continuing all night at Anne Cat Face’s residence. The Funeral Service will be held at GLADSTONE HALL on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00 pm. The interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Blood Reserve, AB.
