Debbie Plaited Hair April 2, 1963 – February 15, 2023
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Debbie Plaited Hair from the All-Tall People Clan, our cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt at the age of 59 years old. Debbie was born on April 2, 1963, at the Blood Indian Hospital in Cardston, AB, and made her journey home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, in Kainai, AB.
Debbie leaves behind her beloved son Bueford (Gaylene), grandchildren Taijah, Cassius, Mikaya, Grayson, Kessler, Billie, Paris, Haylee, Hazel, Cloudlyn, Dean, Charish, Juelz, Jayda, Atria, and Violet. Debbie also leaves behind her loving siblings Shirley (Llyod), Bob, Cindy (Dewey), Sidney Jr, Frank, Connie, Dale Ann, and Johnny (Miranda) and numerous nephews and nieces. Debbie also leaves behind her loving aunts Eve Yellow Old Woman, and Sylvia Yellow Old Woman. Debbie also leaves to mourn her extended family members from the Yellow Old Woman, Red Crow, Delaney, Black Water, Rides at the Door, and Tail Feathers families.
Mom was very proud of her Blackfoot ancestry and practiced her traditional beliefs. Family meant the world to mom; she loved spending time with loved ones, and she would help whenever needed. She loved playing hand games throughout North America and won numerous championships. In her younger years mom was very athletic, she played baseball, hockey, and loved riding horses. She always had a story to share, a loving hug and her laughter was infectious. Mom loved to listen to music, visiting friends, neighbors and would make friends wherever she would go. Debbie was very proud of her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished. Debbie attended school at Fort Macleod and St. Mary’s Residential School. She worked in Alaska on a fishing boat, security at various locations, and worked for various businesses in Kainai. In 1996 she rode on horseback from Blackfoot Crossing, Siksika Nation to St. Mary’s in Browning, Montana as part of the Blackfoot Confederacy, she was very proud of this accomplishment. Mom was very outspoken and would say whatever was on her mind.
Debbie was predeceased by her precious children Dylan, Gracie, Rocky II, and Chance, her parents Sidney Sr and Phyllis (Old Rock) Plaited Hair, paternal grandparents Bob Plaited Hair & Paula Rider, and maternal grandparents George & Agnes Old Rock, her late sister-in-law Stephanie, and her nieces Lori, Laura, Janice and nephew Tristian, Julian, Chucky, and Justin. She was also predeceased by her adopted older brother Tiny Man Heavy Runner, uncles Wallace Delaney, George Plaited Hair and aunties Amy Plaited Hair, Dora Plaited Hair, Mattie Plaited Hair.

A Wake Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Catherine’s cemetery.
