NORMAN BARRY PRETE
Norman Barry Prete—Age 65
Born: Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada 11 May, 1954
Died: Cardston, Alberta, Canada 22 September, 2019
Parents: Norman Joseph Prete (deceased) and Dora Clara (Woods) Prete
Norman was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Through the years he developed a personal relationship with his Savior, freely sharing his love of the Lord with others. His love for family is eternal in nature and his commitment as son, sibling, spouse, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend came above all else. Norman is known to his family as a gentle giant, exhibiting tenderness, compassion, patience, and unconditional love through all the trials of his life.
He was born and raised on a farm and managed a corporate farm near Edmonton, Alberta for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also had careers as a businessman, policeman, served as law enforcement at the 2000 Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT and was a corporate manager at Pearson Tire head office in Utah until he was forced into medical retirement and relocated back to Alberta, Canada. His love for farming never dimmed and in his last three years of life, he anxiously waited for the harvest season, so he could drive a combine.
Norm received his early education in Saskatchewan, in a one-room school, until the eighth grade when the family relocated to Alberta, where he finished high school. He received further education in the fields of heavy duty mechanics, agriculture, animal husbandry at the Lethbridge Junior College, University of Athabasca, University of Calgary and BYU-Provo. In his youth he served a term in Cadets and had a profound interest in military world history events, with a special interest in Navy Seals. Norm never stopped learning and was an avid reader of all good books. He could converse with anyone and captivate his listener at any time, on any topic about things in the Heavens, the wonders of the earth, and under the oceans.
To say he was a sports enthusiast, would be an understatement. In high school, he dominated in a variety of sports and later on in life, passed that love on to kids as a football coach. His favorite team was the BYU Cougars. He especially loved participating in his family’s athletic achievements. He would always say that his “buttons were popping off his shirt” with pride when his family participated and/or succeeded.
Norman left life the way he lived it; peacefully. He will be greatly missed! Until we meet again.
