Watch the Funeral Service
It is with great sadness that we announce the  peaceful passing of our Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Opha Smith Quinton in Cardston, April 27th, 2025, in her 100th year with family by her side. She is the  beloved wife of the late Garth A. Quinton.
She was born on November 28, 1925,  in Cardston, Alberta to her parents, Willard Lisbon and Jennie Hill Leavitt Smith. She is predeceased by her husband, Garth, an infant son, Kenneth Wayne, a great granddaughter, Ruby-Jo Montana, her parents and all her siblings Garth,  DeLoy,  Theron, Verla, Kelvin and Derrell.
Opha married her eternal sweet heart on June 12, 1947  in the Cardston Alberta Temple and together they had five sons. She is survived by 4 sons, Donald (Gail), Eric (Bonnie), Gregory (Linda), Robert (Renee),16 Grandchildren and 39 Great Grandchildren.
Mom  spent her early childhood in the Samoan and Tonga islands as her father served as Mission President there from 1926 to 1934. It was said that when Mother returned home she had to learn English. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout her life.
Mom was great  lover of sports. In her youth she played center for The Shooting Stars, a basketball team that could often beat the local men’s teams. She was an avid curler and after the rink closed she could often be found on the local golf course with her foursome between school bus runs. She drove bus for 20+ years for the Cardston School Division and was the go-to-driver for the high school basketball teams away games.
She loved spending summer time at Lake Blaine with all the friends of the family and was always trying to find someone to take her even after her health failed. She always enjoyed a good game of Rook.
Mom loved clothes and looking good.  She was an avid shopper and was always looking for that next “great outfit”. She had her hair done at Deanne’s every Friday and it was a sad day when she was no longer able to make it to her appointments.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lee Crest and Dr.  Leavitt who took such good care of Mother these past few years.
She will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel (355 3 St W, Cardston) on Saturday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m., with President Bob Quinton Officiating.
