It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Christy Red Crow - Day Chief announce her passing on November 10, 2022.
Christy was born on October 3, 1976 to proud parents, Godfrey and Velma Red Crow. Christy is survived by her brother Mylon; children, Rylan (Tahnee), Gracie and Colton (Brooke); grandchildren Harlow, Briggs, Braxton, Kynleigh, Leo, Beau and Bentley; nephews Logan, Chael and MJ; niece Remmi; godparents Joanne and Bruce Red Crow
Christy resided on the Blood Reserve, graduated from Kainai High School and attended Lethbridge Community College. She was employed with BTDH Clinic, BTDH Optometry and Wellness, BT police, BTAP and BTRI (social development).
Christy was better known as “Candy”. At birth, Godfrey and Velma did not have a name picked out. Godfrey told Velma to name her “Godfreda”, Velma replied “NO WAY!!”, she’ll be so embarrassed when she gets older. Godfrey then said “oh my baby Candy” from then on she was known as Candy, Daddy’s girl.
Christy excelled in basketball, numerous track and field events and rodeo. In rodeo, she won All-Around at a Junior all-girls rodeo, where she competed in barrel racing, goat tying, pole bending, steer undecorating and ribbon roping.
Christy had a huge heart and supported and loved the vulnerable and homeless. She went out of her way to ensure they were warm and had something to eat.
Christy’s spiritual journey began as a young girl, believing in many ways of life. Although she knew her Christian faith, she began her traditional way of life in the sacred Sundance and societies. At a young age, Christy joined the Brave Dog Society, and later with the teachings of her parents, joined the sacred Horn Society on two occasions for many years. Christy, along with her dad, learned and sang many of the sacred songs, later joined the Thunder Pipe Society.
The love of her life was her children, grandchildren and many adoptive children whom she supported with whatever they desired and excelled in.
We will miss Christy‘s sense of humor, laughter, caring ways and most of all, her love.
Christy was predeceased by brother, Godfrey Jr; husband, Ronald (Joe) Day Chief; son, Cody Day Chief; grandparents, Herbert & Elsie First Rider and Fredrick & Elizabeth Red Crow and other relatives too numerous to mention.
The Wake Service will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at White Calf Hall, Stand Off from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at White Calf Hall, Stand Off on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
