It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, son and brother Kristian Scout-Chief Moon “Nitakaa”-Main Friend has been called home to be with our Creator on May 12, 2021.
Kristian was born March 22, 1974 at Cardston Municipal Hospital to Jordan Chief-moon Sr. and the late Rosetta Scout (October 24, 2016). He was the first born son to Jordan and Rosetta. He grew up in the Fish Creek and Chief Moon Valley areas. He was a rambunctious, free spirited, lovable boy. Always with “The old man Dan” doing whatever Dan did. He was a copycat to grandpa Dan. Washed up the way Dan did. He learned to do things quite early in life. As a child, Kristian was a very curious child. He would always follow grandpa Dan “the old man” around. Observing him, even to the point of watching “The old man’s” daily routine of washing up. Kristian would tell mom to get him ready a sink full of water and would push a chair to it and start splashing everywhere to the point of making the room soaking with water, all over the floor and everywhere else you can think of. Kristian loved to be by grandpa Dan. He would go with them everywhere they went. He would stand by grandpa Dan when they were driving and whisper in grandpa Dan’s ear “go faster! Race!” and grandpa would speed up the car and grandma Philomena would yell out, “don't listen to a baby!”. Kristian would be jumping up and down with joy because grandpa Dan listened to him. Some of Kristian’s favorite pastimes as a child were getting into mischief, forcing his younger siblings Arlene and Simon to eat dirt, riding horses, hunting, camping and playing hockey. He always learned to do things quickly. Everything he was taught; he would do it well with just one look. He was a natural at everything he did. He learned to skate at the tender age of 3, with dad teaching him to skate on the frozen river ice. He was a natural where he excelled at his hockey. He even played minor hockey where these hockey tournaments led him to travel all over Alberta and Southern BC. In the Chief Moon Valley we would often go on “Adventures.” Discovering our magical, make-belief world. We would play and play for hours, losing all track of time. He was always such a protector of his younger siblings, even though we all fought like cats and dogs. Growing up, Kristian was close to all his cousins. They were all like brothers and sisters to him. They would always get into mischief and always get into trouble with whatever they did. Getting disciplined by our uncles and getting chased home with the famous quote from uncle Gus Sr., “you see that road, you FOLLOW IT!” He would then have to face the consequences from our Mom and get grounded from the “playing” he did. Kristian attended schools at Levern, Cardston and Lethbridge.
Once Kristian became a young man and father, he loved all his children with all his heart. They were the loves of his life. After fatherhood, Kristian knew he would have to provide for his family. So be
it, firefighting came natural to him. He did this for years – he loved it. Kristian made a career out of firefighting. He started firefighting from 1997-2015. Nearly 20 years as a firefighter. He loved it. He excelled at it. Towards the end of his firefighting career – he was the sawyer of his firefighting crew.
Kristian made friends very easily. Hence the name “Main Friend.” Always making sure everyone around him was fed. He would make his famous pot of soup which he famously named “goulash.” It was such a deliciously, homemade soup. To this day, we don’t know what he put in it – it was a favorable meal amongst everyone. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back. He was well known by everyone. Everyone who met him wanted to be around him 24/7. He was a kind, giving, and caring person. He was always very helpful. If his family needed something, he would go out if his way to get it done. He loved everyone and always wanted to give a helping hand if he could.
