Jane Ashlynn Lane ‘Tia’ Shade (Iitoy’oohkomii - Calling in The River) - September 5, 2008 - March 30, 2026
Jane Ashlynn Lane ‘Tia’ Shade was born September 5th, 2008, to proud and loving parents Jessica Jane Morning Bird and Kieven Kelcee Shade. She was born in Lethbridge to a very large and eager family awaiting her arrival. Jane ‘Tia’ was deeply loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed. She will always be remembered by her dad Kieven (Melissa) Shade and step-dad Gordon Morning Bird Jr. Jane ‘Tia’ was called home to the creator on Monday, March 30th, 2026, at the tender age of 17. She will be sadly missed by her siblings: Ian, Alexi, Adam, and Baby Jr. Step siblings: Scarlett, Shawn, Clement, and Maelle. Jane ‘Tia’ is also survived by her grandparents Candace and Jon Bird.

Jane ‘Tia’ was a very special grandchild and considered a Kiipiitapohkoa by Justin and Carrie Shade. They did everything with & for her. Through the guidance of her grandparents Candace and Jon Bird, along with her late mom and step- dad (Jr. Morning Bird), she proudly practiced her Blackfoot culture and attended many ceremonies. She was very adamant about learning our traditional ways of life and wanting to carry on the sacred teachings. Jane ‘Tia’ was awarded Tiny Tot Princess which allowed her the privilege to travel to Tsuut’ina Nation and as far as the Gathering Of Nations in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She had the honor to represent as Tiny Tot Princess of the Blood Tribe. Jane ‘Tia’ was very active and involved in the Blood Tribe Running Warriors Club. One of her greatest running accomplishments was when she was in the 3 rd Annual McFarland USA 5K-10K in McFarland, California. A very memorable experience was when she travelled to Los Angeles with her dad. They visited the Griffith Observatory, as well as the Santa Monica Beach. She also enjoyed trips with her grandparents, Justin and Carrie to Waterton.
Jane Tia’ had many memorable experiences in Waterton. She loved her music, specifically Slipknot. Jane ‘Tia’ loved to play her guitar and skate-boarding. Her loving spirit was engaging and uplifting to everyone in her presence. She made friends wherever she went; her laughter brought joy to those around her. Jane’s first summer job was with BTEST and was placed with Blood Tribe Recreation, working in all areas. This was her very first job. She was greatly enjoyed by all the staff at Recreation. Jane ‘Tia’ also did contract work alongside her papa Jon from framing to painting walls. She also worked alongside her dad and step mom in the restaurant business doing such duties as meal prep to cooking chili and making fry bread. The knowledge that was passed down to her from her grandpa Jon and dad made her enthusiastic to take on any project. She was a very hard worker with an exceptional work ethic. Jane ‘Tia’ left a void in all our lives that can never be filled; she will be missed by all who knew her. The creator was ready to call our baby home, even though our hearts weren’t ready.
She is predeceased by her mom, Jessica Morning Bird (nee – Day Chief).

A Wake Service will be held at Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Thursday, April 9 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, Blood Reserve on Friday, April 10 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at One Spot Cemetery, Old Agency.
