LESLIE (SAM) MELVYN SIEMENS, beloved husband of Jacqueline Hazel Siemens (nee Baker) passed away on Sunday, April 3rd in Raymond Alberta surrounded by his family at the age of 80. Sam was born on July 4th, 1941 in Crooked River, Saskatchewan to Peter and Margaret Siemens. He grew up in Reserve, Saskatchewan and was known for his superior athletic abilities and for winning every medal in track & field, baseball, and hockey. After moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1965, Sam worked at Irving Wire Industries for 42 years and volunteered for the Calgary Canucks Association as an off-ice official for 20 years. In January of 1974, he met the love of his life Jacque Baker and they were married on June 29th of the same year. After retiring in 2006, Sam and Jacque moved to Magrath, Alberta to start the next chapter of their life.
Sam had a great love for his family and was present at every hockey, baseball, softball, band, dance, and theatre production as the loudest cheering fan of his children and grandchildren, and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Jacque, daughter Shyanne (Greg), son Shane (Annette), and Grandchildren Rex, Lesleigh (Josh), Alexis, Angil, Emilia, Josh, Ella, and Justin.
As well as his sister-in-law Pat and brothers Wayne (Sandy), Larry, and Ronald, and sister-in-law Raeola, and brother-in-law Bill (Carole). Sam is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sam is predeceased by his parents Margaret and Peter Siemens, parent in-laws Hyrum and Hazel Baker, sisters Darlene and Wilma, and brothers Sheldon and Glen. Brothers-in-law Rex, Dan and Adolf, and sisters-in-law Jean and Janet.
We invite you to meet the family on Friday, April 8th from 6-7 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Magrath Garden Place Chapel or Saturday, April the 9th 9:45-10:45 am with the funeral service at 11 am with interment at the Leavitt cemetery.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Greg Smith and the excellent nursing care at the Raymond Hospital.
