Frank Maynard SMALL EYES
It is with tremendous sadness to announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, and Companion Frank Small Eyes. He was born at the Blood Indian Hospital on March 26, 1939 and resided in the Moccasin Flats/Moses Lake area for part of his younger years and later moved to Yakima, Washington, US, he spent many years there.
After returning to Canada in 1989 he made his home in Standoff until the time of his passing.
Frank was a kind, gentle person who cared for everyone he met. His home was often a place for those who had nowhere else to go. At the time of his passing, Frank lived at his home in Standoff with his wife Janice Day Rider who lovingly assisted him in his daily trips to Cardston and Lethbridge.
As a young man, Frank spent his time hunting with relatives, the late Steven Steele and Sam Small Eyes. These boys, including brother Francis, would often leave home to travel south to Yakima, Wash., and the Seattle area to pick apples and perform seasonal work. They often came home with a lot of goodies that they shared with their loved ones.
He was a good story-teller who often shared his sense of humor in making people laugh. He had a way of making people forget about their own worries; He lived his life in a carefree manner but could always be counted on if anyone needed help or guidance. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart.
Frank is survived by his children Marlene Sweet Grass, Monica (John) Chief Moon, Shirley (Barnabus) Tallman, Julie Crazy Bull, Felicia Little Shields; wife Janice Day Rider; Grandchildren Brook; Kellsia; Tucker; Shaylynn; Kristirae; Cheyenne Nanamkin-Small Eyes; grandchildren, Leann, Kirk, August, Tia, AJ, Deon, Franklin Jr., Lauryn, Annie, JR, Ty, Ashley, Rozalyn, Jonathon, Austin, Mel, Estelle, and Kenton Shade.
