With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of James (Jim) Franklin Smith into the arms of our Heavenly Father on the evening of September 12th, 2022 at the Lee Crest Manor, Cardston, Alberta at the age of 87.
Born to J. Walter Merryman Smith and Ercell (Brooks, Smith) Fulmer in Ellensburg, Washington on February 12th, 1935- Jim was the youngest of 3. He was predeceased by his brother Jack B. Smith and his sister Revae (Smith) Mickelburg. At 9 his family moved to Seattle, Washington where he would graduate from West Seattle High School in 1953, followed by a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Washington in Japanese-Russian Relations. In 1954 he joined the US Navy and was assigned to the USS Stickleback submarine, SS514. His tenure with the Navy was successful, running many years & stationing him around the world including notably Spain and Japan. Jim was well travelled, lived and worked many places over the years, but it was his work with Primerica that brought him North of the border to open an office in Western Canada. Relocating to Calgary where he met and eventually married Aline Giguiere. Upon retirement, Jim and Aline moved to Cardston, where they have lived for the past 20 years. Jim is survived by his first wife Anne and their sons James, Michael, Mark and Jack, grandchildren Chaszon, Chelsea, Matthew, Lauren, Jason and Jared, Great grandchildren Coby and Brooke. As well his wife Aline, and step-children Marika, Daniel and Anaka, grandchildren Gabriel, Tristan, Cordelia, Camille, Andrew, Lily-Jane, Sagesse, Sterling, Solace, Saunder, Skyden and great grandchild Ophelia. Jim lived a full and colourful life and was pivotal in the lives of so many others. He served his life with integrity, kindness, faith, love and will be so dearly missed. The Funeral Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, Cardston on Saturday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
