In loving memory of Susan Leigh Stabs Down – Healy “Si’kotaanski” (Dark Faced Daughter),
December 18, 1975 – April 4, 2023
The family of Susan Leigh Stabs Down, 47, is deeply saddened over her death, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, an accidental drug overdose after years of battling with her addiction. She was on life support for three days before it was taken off. She was the daughter of Leona Stabs Down and the late Jordan Healy. Born in Fort Macleod and raised in Old Agency on the Blood Reserve in her early childhood years along with her cousins. Mother of 5 children the eldest son Darien Wade Jay (Allison Cayanne), daughters Madison, Nicole, Haven and Astraijah. One granddaughter Aseyla. Susan loved her children deeply, and she tried to stay in contact with all of them whenever possible. She had hoped to change her troubled life to eventually carry on her maternal role to her children. Her mom encouraged her to come stay with her in Old Agency to let go of street life where the drugs were more accessible. One can only hope and pray as her mother did in trying to help Susan’s struggles with drugs. She stayed with her mom a few days only to return to Lethbridge and be with other addicts. These street friends helped and watched out for one another. Whenever her mom was in Lethbridge she would look for her and if by chance she found her she tried convincing her to come home with her or give her the new clothes she bought for her. Although Susan didn’t complete high school, she dreamed of a future career and hoped to become an addiction counsellor to help other addicts to choose recovery or shine a light on this horrible epidemic once she dealt with her own demons. Susan’s schooling was in Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton, and St. Mary’s High School on the Blood Reserve. In grade ten Susan had excellent marks in Science and Math subjects. Since she had excelled in Math, she earned money by tutoring other students. She liked the games of basketball and volleyball. She joined the school basketball team and the Bonnie Doone Volleyball team. Most of us have fears and phobias. With Susan growing up she had an intense fear of insects, dogs, and cats. At times it became hilarious when she encountered a tiny little insect screaming and crying to whomever was around to get the bug off of her. Her cousins knew of her fear of dogs and cats. They teased her by imitating meow sounds, and she’d immediately run into the house not wanting to go outside to continue playing with her cousins. Only watching them from the window. When she became an adult, she was feisty and outspoken. That was Susan. Susan was considerate, willing to help, kind to others, protective, and respectful toward the elderly. As a teenager she loved Heavy Metal music and often attended concerts by various artists. Susan learned to bead and had a knack for her creative bead work. She’d give her beadwork as gifts to family members. Susan enjoyed cooking, especially Indian Tacos. She loved pastries and other sweets. “Her pictures show her smiling, laughing, posing, loving and being loved by her family and friends.” Susan Leigh will be missed by her heart broken children, her mother, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her spirit has joined family she dearly loved, her father Jordan Healy, her younger sister Zoey, and her niece Peyton. Another one gone too soon.”
A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Monday, April 17 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Tuesday, April 18 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at One Spot Cemetery, Old Agency, AB. Feast to follow at Old Agency Hall.
