JOAN MARILYNNE STRANG , beloved wife of Dr. Andy Strang, passed away quietly in the Cardston Hospital on July 27, 2021. Joan was born on Nov. 6, 1937 in Moose Jaw, Sask. to John and Mary MacDonald. Following high school in Moose Jaw, Joan trained as a Laboratory Technologist at Providence Hospital. She then moved to Edmonton to work for the Red Cross and at the Royal Alexander Hospital. Joan and Andy met in Saskatoon in 1967 at the University of Saskatchewan, were married in 1968 and moved to Cardston where they lived and raised their family for the next 52 years. After moving to Cardston, Joan worked as a lab tech at the Cardston Hospital as well as Sire Lodge and she was also employed at Imagination Unlimited for a period.
Joan was actively involved with Music Makers and Cardston Community Theatre. She played organ and piano at Faith Lutheran Church for many years and taught Sunday School. She was a leader in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League until her health began to fail. Joan was known as an expert seamstress, knitter, and quilter and was called upon to solve most every knitting problem.
Joan is survived by her husband Andy, her children Gerald (Elizabeth), Joe (Lacey), Jeff (Jolene), Jim (Anita), Janet Ruckman, Shannon Strang-Meijer (Dennis), and Eric, her sister Charlene, twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 1:00 at the United Church in Cardston with Pastor Jim Lindemann officiating. Following cremation, interment will take place at a later date in the family plot in Moose Jaw, Sask.
