
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Striped Wolf “Aapaotskinayii” on June 29, 2022 at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family. David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Striped Wolf and his five sons and one daughter, David Jr. (Tamara) Good Rider, Shirley (Cameron) Chief Body, Jamie (Lori) Striped Wolf, Lloyd Good Rider, Gilbert Spear Chief and Dwayne (Angie) Good Rider. Grandchildren Zoe, Jada, Lyle, Zoe Poorman, Samantha, Riley, Tishawna, Henry, Hayden, A.J, Shania, Angelina, Tahlia, Shieva, Delayna, Naomi, Savannah, Tiffany, Nicholas, Tyrik, Nash, Mercedes, Alah, Shaleea, Kensleigh, Patience, D.J, Timothy, Adrian, Jonathon, Amber, Deidra, Sinjin and Keegan. Great-grandchildren Lanelle, Helena, Zeke, Amaia, Skylar, Chazly, Matic, Hallie, Izzabella, Junoah, Novah, Chelayah, Tylen, Kevin, Lily, Silver, Rumour, Erin, Evelyn, Taryn and Kaleb. Siblings Marylouise Many Grey Horses, Phillip Hairy Bull, Kevin Striped Wolf, Clement Black Rabbit and Andy Stump. Nieces and Nephews Sheryl Alcorn, Tami Many Grey Horses, Wesley (Noreen) Gros Ventre Boy, Deanie Gros Ventre Boy, Vincent Many Grey Horses, Norbert Many Grey Horses, Shaun Many Grey Horses and Patrick Black Plume. Adopted children JJ Shade, Katlin Archand, Tammy Tourangeau-Paul and kids. David’s relatives are Soop’s, Mistaken Chief’s, Many Chief’s, Eagle Bear’s, Black Water’s, Black Plume’s, Day Rider’s, Wolf Child’s, Gros Ventre Boy’s, First Rider’s, Aberdeen’s, Many Guns’, the late Mae Tallow’s family and Teresa and the late Melvin Wadsworth family.
David had many passions in life but the Sundance Aakokatsin (Big Circle Camp) and his work were what he loved. He began his journey in Sundance in 1984 were he joined the Horn Society five terms, starting with Wilton Good Striker as leader of the Asipiitaiks (Young Eagle Group), Roger Prairie Chicken as leader of the Iinakotskinnaiyiiks (little Horn Group), Andrew Weasel Fat as leader of the Ootsimiotasiiks (Sorrel Horse Group), the late Les Buckskin as leader of the Sikimiotassiiks (Black Horse Group) and Rodney First Rider as leader of the Stamiksootskinnaiyiiks (Bull Horn Group). David continued to engage in Sundance every year where his role was an elder/teacher. David became very involved the Dove (Kakioks) Society when his children and grandchildren joined the Society. He and Evelyn supported their family throughout their time with the Dove Society and continued his role until his passing. One trip in particular David loved and often talked about was his trip with his loving wife, friends the late Andy Black Water and Phyllis where they went to Las Vegas and then onto Texas. Through David’s traditional knowledge he gained an opportunity to work with Tribal Government where he travelled to many places throughout Alberta such as Banff, Coleman, down to Medicine Hat area. David had an opportunity to work with Parks Canada, Alta Link, Galt Museum and Castle Mountain Project where he met many people that had an impact on him. David’s community was important to him, he and Andy B.W. Started the group Vision in Motion to pull the community together by focusing on engaging people in events for the community and making them feel involved. People from the community often invited David to participate in various functions as an elder, where he loved to share and teach his knowledge hoping that some part of it would be passed on to teach kindness and helping one another.
David was predeceased by his son Timothy Good Rider, Grand-daughter Rady Good Rider, siblings Bertha Black Face, Larry Hairy Bull, uncles Nick and Harold Striped Wolf, Albert Wolf Child and Ray Black Plume, aunt Ruby Gros Ventre Boy and adopted son Tyson Shade, as well as many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews and extended family members.
The family would like to extend special thanks for their contributions; Blood Tribe Chief and Council, Blood Tribe Tribal Government, Blood Tribe Agricultural Project, Thunder Chief, Trading Post, Nadine & Garrett Tailfeathers, Pat & Delia Twigg, Wesley & Noreen Gros Ventre Boy and Ira Provost & Ruth Many Grey Horses, the family apologizes for any names that may have been missed.
The Wake Service will be at White Calf Hall, Stand Off on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 6:00 pm - all night. The Funeral Service will follow at White Calf Hall, Stand Off on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Blood Band Cemetery.
