It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend
KATHERINE MARY (NEWTON) VADNAIS on the 9th of February 2022. Kathy was born on the 18th of December 1949 in the Cardston, Alberta Hospital. It was a joyous moment for her parents (William) Ed and Helen Newton of Del Bonita. Through the years 3 more brothers were added to the Newton family – William (Bill), Jim and David. Life in Del Bonita was filled with love, cousins, aunts and uncles, good neighbours, cattle and farming.
While participating at the 4H show in Lethbridge July 1966 she first met her husband to be Lavern Vadnais after a friend told her not to talk to that cute boy with one of the pens of 5. Their first date was a movie in Lethbridge that week where they arrived via a 3 ton truck with stock racks attached. They were married in Lethbridge on June 5th 1971 and began their early married life in Boundary Creek. This spring they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and were so happy for those people who were able to attend their Drive By Reception.
Through the years they had 5 children – Maureen (Frank) Vadnais-Sloan, Meagan (Wes) Card, Holly (Gary) Kutsch, Heather (Adair) Quesnelle, and Ryan (Brooke) Vadnais. Thankfully she survived raising kids so she could become a grandma! She has 21 grandkids whom she loves dearly and who dearly love her! Birthdays, holidays, football, basketball, hockey and 4H shows are not going to be the same without Grandma Vadnais there. She supported her family in everything they did. Grandkids were a staple at her house as well as cold pop (especially Diet Coke!) and treats. She loved finally having sisters in the form of sister-in-laws and enjoyed and loved all of her nieces and nephews and their children.
She worked at the Cardston Hospital as a physiotherapist from 1987 to when she retired in 2015. She truly loved her job and helping people. Many times you could find her crying right alongside a patient during a difficult treatment. Many good friends were made through her associations there.
She held numerous service positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When she passed away, she was serving as the Relief Society President of the Lee Crest branch. She was predeceased by her parents, (William) Ed and Helen Newton, her son in law Frank Sloan, and a grandson Wyatt Dee Card who we are sure she hasn’t let go of since she arrived in Heaven. She loved gathering with people and was so grateful for the beautiful home she had to host parties in. Having people drop by to visit was one of her favorite activities.
Friends may meet the family on Friday, February 18th at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to the service.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston Alberta Stake Centre, 338 5th Ave. E., Cardston, AB., on Saturday, February 19th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery.
