Saahkomaapii (Boy) Andrew (Louis) Weasel Fat passed away peacefully at home, February 10, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Saahkomaapii was born on April 3, 1940 on the Blood Reserve. With his beloved wife Mainist’samaakii Margaret, they spent 61 wonderful years together.
He leaves to mourn their Loving Children: Binky (Deceased)- (Carolyn), Horton (Andrienne), Debbie, Tracy (Chantel), Roxy (Lionel) and Jason (Jenna) Grandchildren: Sandy, A.J, Nancy, Pam, Matthew Kyle, Brooke, Shawna (Taran) Lesley, Jordan, Nikita, Sherise, Michelle, Brittany (Shae), Mercedes, Keely, Madison, Layla, Keana, Elyjah, Neveah, and Willow. Thirty Seven (37) Great Grandchildren. Adopted Children: Acorn, (Anastasia) Janelle, Rhonda, Carolyn Wells, Leonard & Audrey Weasel Traveller, Stewart & Cathy Breaker, Foran Spear Chief, Marvin & Lydia Mistaken Chief, Jamie & Lori Striped Wolf, Audrey Eagle Bear, Siksikakowaan (Ivan Tallow)-Deceased. Andrews Siblings: Pauline Tallow, Fannie Weasel Fat and Marlene White Feathers.
Saahkomaapii was raised in Old Agency and St. Mary’s. He was a cadet, played hockey, and loved riding horses and attended St. Paul’s Residential School. Saahkomaapii went on to learn various trades, He w
to become a talented Carpenter, he helped build Gladstone Hall, Old Agency Hall. When he worked at Kainai Industries, he helped build numerous homes on our reserve, he worked Hi CO, as a Meat cutter at Superette, and Operation & Maintenance Supervisor at Kainai Board of Education where he retired from.
At a young age he met the love of his life Mainist’samaakii Margaret, married February 24, 1958. The love they have for each other is truly selfless, unconditional, and forgiving. Their home was filled with love laughter and good food. They settled in Old Agency, sharing their home with their five children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They celebrated 61, years of marriage, now they are reunited forever.
Saahkomaapi was a humble man, very gentle and kind. He lived our Nitsitaapii way of life, carrying much spiritual knowledge. True to his ways, he never turned anyone away, offered his teachings to all who asked for his knowledge. Saahkomaapii believed strongly in Aatsimookan, Aakookaatsin was his second home.
Saahkomaapii joined the Horn Society (Magpie Society), partners to Winston & Martha Day Chief and then joined the (Young Eagle Society), partners to Andy & Phyllis Black Water. Saahkomaapii & Mainist’samaakii together become the leaders of the Sorrel Horse Society. He was a Horn Member for 26 years, where he gained vast amount of knowledge. He helped repatriate numerous Bundles back home. They become Medicine Pipe Bundle holders for Sooytsiyaahkiiniimaan. Together they stepped into the role of becoming Elders and mentors.
Their children & grandchildren followed in their footsteps: Horton - Medicine Pipe Holder. Debbie – Motokiks. Tracy- Brave Dogs. Roxy - Motokiks, Medicine Pipe Bundle holder, & Horn Society. Jason - Medicine Pipe Bundle holder. Brittany - Medicine Pipe Bundle Holder, Madison - Brave Dogs, Layla - Brave Dogs. Michelle -Brave Dogs. He was one of the lead elders to Grey Horse Society.
Saahkomaapii sang for Motokiks for 30+ years, Medicine Pipe bundle openings, Horn Society, and Weather Dancers. He was a apart of Old Agency drum group and White Feathers drum group, He composed numerous songs, traveling to powwows all over Canada and U.S.
Saahkomaapii & Maanist’samaakii enjoyed their travels together, they travelled with Red Crow College for A.H.E.I.C. North & South Dakota, Albuquerque New Mexico, Hawaii. Many time to Las Vegas, New York, Victoria BC for Indigenous games to support Jason, Kentucky to support A.J. They loved and supported each of their grandchildren travelling to games, hockey, basketball, and volleyball. Every year they went to their second home in Crow Agency, Montana, to Crow Fair, spending time with adopted sister Gladys Jefferson her children and grandchildren.
Saahkomaapii was an Elder to our Blackfoot Confederacy, also for the Treaty Chiefs of 6, 7, & 8, performing Pipe ceremonies, face painting, name giving and headdress transfer ceremonies.
Saahkomaapii left a legacy of love, kindness and humbleness, he will be loved and missed tremendously by all who knew him.
Extended families included Weasel Fat, White Feathers, Day Chief, Thunder Chief, Healy, Tallman, No Runner, Wadsworth, Good Striker, Davis, Spotted Eagle, Little Moustache, Big Swan. Predeceased Maanist’samaakii Margaret his Beloved Wife, son Binky, granddaughter Raegan, Parents: Fred & Beatrice, Aunts: Betty, & Annie, Grandfather: White Feathers, siblings: Rosella, Bernard, Gilbert, Ralph, Gerald. Relatives: Siksikakoan Ivan Tallow, Maggie Hinkle, Mary Ground.
A Wake Service will be held at Old Agency Hall, Blood Reserve on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Old Agency Hall, Blood Reserve on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11:00 am.
