In his younger years, Kenny attended school at the Cardston Elementary, Sapoyi in Standoff and went on to graduate school at the Kainai High School in 1999. During his high school year’s, he received 2 scholarships in football, a sport in which he excelled in. Kenny continued his education at the Lethbridge College where he became certified in bartending and culinary arts, his education would continue onto the University of Lethbridge in the Arts & Science program where he majored in Kinesiology. Kenny’s dream was to specialize in Sports Medicine as sports was a passion that would help him to thrive throughout his life. Anyone who knew Kenny, knew that he was a big Dreamer and he made sure that he fulfilled his dreams.
Kenny was a very talented athlete which allowed him to play numerous sports. In high school he was a part of the Kainai Warriors basketball team as well as the baseball team. During that time, Kenny travelled to many tournaments throughout Canada and the United States. After high school basketball, Kenny put together a team “Blood Storm” in which it consisted of all his cousins whom he took as his brothers. He was very passionate about the sports he participated in and would always make sure all whom he played with had a chance to play and that they were taken care of. Kenny also played with his sister Arlene and the rest of his cousins on the “Misfits” slo-pitch team. It was never a dull moment with him on the team. In his later years Ken went on to become an MMA fighter, through his time as a fighter he took all wins and loses with humbleness and sportsmanship. His baby brother Logan looked up to him and would later follow in Ken footsteps where Ken would often be giving him pointers.
Prior to Kenny’s arrival here on earth, his parents were only expecting one baby. Not long after Kenny was born the Dr. informed them that there were two babies and to their surprise along came his twin sister Gina. The Twins, Kenny and Gina, were very fortunate to have spent many memorable times with their Grandparents, Ed & Marion Heavy Shields & Grama Annie. As big and strong as Kenny was, Gina was always there to protect her big brother. A piece of Kenny was missing when he lost his twin sister Gina. What helped Ken get through this difficult time was the arrival of his children. Ken always spoke so highly of his children and loved them unconditional. Kenny became a grandpa in March of 2021, and he was so proud, always calling family just to say, “I’m a Grandpa!”. Family meant everything to Kenny. He was the type of person that would take the shirt off his back if anyone needed one.
