BETTY LOUISE WILEY, beloved wife of Garold (Gary) Wiley, passed away peacefully amongst all her family’s tears at the Lethbridge hospital on Sunday, July 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She reached the age of 75 years.
Betty was born to Merlin and Hazel Steed and grew up in Taylorville, Alberta with her sisters, Grace, Marie and Theresa. Betty went to school at Jefferson, the University of Calgary, and Lethbridge University to become a school teacher. She loved her school children and specialized as a music teacher. Betty and her husband with their four children, David, Scot, Michelle and Michael, lived in various places across Alberta. In their retirement, Betty and Gary finally settled back in Taylorville on family farm land.
Betty always selflessly served others, especially her family, who were first in her priorities and love. She was guardian of the home hearth as her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sisters and their families gathered to her often, including at a family reunion every year. Betty loved music – she composed, played, and sang about her family. All her interests benefited her family, like her baked goodies and bread, her fruitful garden, knitting and sewing, and active involvement with grandchildren. As Grandma, she dearly loved and cherished each moment. Betty’s faith that families are forever and her legacy of love will be engraved in her family’s hearts.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gary Wiley, older sisters, Grace Onstad and Marie Lowry, her younger sister, Theresa Steed, and her children, David and Tina Wiley, Scot and Edie Wiley, Michelle and Robin Nugent, Michael and Amy Wiley, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, Merlin and Hazel Steed.
