It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Willy on May 7, 2025 in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 46 years old.
William "Willy" Neal Wolf Child the 3rd was born on May 9, 1978 at the Blood Indian Hospital. Willy is survived by his beloved companion of 16 years Raven Bastien. Willy was raised on the Blood Reserve by his late Mother Albertine Wolf Child, the late Junior Hunt and the Hunt family. Willy grew up in the pow wow circuit and became a passionate drummer, throughout the years he sang with drum groups such as Big Corner, Blackfoot Confederacy, and Black Otter. Willy at times would travel with his cousins Calvert, and Andy to compete in surrounding pow wows. Willy loved the powwow trail and would travel to any where he could in Canada and into the United States. He had many stories of his journey and songs that they use to sing. There was a time he came back from Saddlelake and he won a singing contest and singing special with BFC, this was his passion. As he once said these were his glory days and would always tell us the same stories over and over, Willy made many friends throughout his time on the powwow trail.
Willy will forever be remembered for his animated sense of humor that brought so much laughter to his friends and family. We will all have many precious and laughable memories to remember him by. Willy was a dedicated OILERS fan who loved to watch the games with friends and family, so much so he named his son Ryan after his favorite player Ryan Smyth. Willy always hoped the Oilers would win the Stanley Cup, but unfortunately it hasn't happened yet. We are going to keep cheering them on for you Willy.
Willy worked at various General Labor jobs throughout his years in Calgary doing Bridge Seals with his boss Charles, and at the BMO center. Willy moved to Lethbridge and he worked at the Exhibition Park, Surplus Furniture and Mattress Warehouse, Corporate Business Ltd and Select Recruiting working on construction sites. Willy attended Elementary, Jr. High in Edmonton, and upon moving to Lethbridge he attended Catholic Central High School where he played football and basketball and then moved to Kainai high School where he finished his football career, he also played basketball for fun with family and friends.
