Brenda was predeceased by her husband Jordan Chief Moon Sr., sons Jordan Chief Moon “Jr.”, Cameron and Stanford Tallow, Gillian Wolf Plume, sisters Terrie and Patsy Tallow, brothers Marcel, Oliver and Morris Shouting Jr., Aaron and Melvin Tallow.
Brenda was born at the Blood Indian Hospital on May 28 1959 to Queenie Tallow and Morris Shouting Sr. Brenda was raised by her grandmother Maggie Shouting. Brenda received her formal education from Cardston School, St. Mary’s Residential School and Lethbridge Community College. Her work history included working in a group home and babysitting for relatives.
Brenda was proudly from the Moses Lake community and when she stayed with Jordan she embraced his hometown Lavern as her own. She also took his religion, Full Gospel, as her own. After living with family members for a number of years, they got their own home in Lavern and raised their children there. Brenda and Jordan were active with the Full Gospel Church in Lavern and helped serve food at Camp Meetings. Brenda’s home always had a welcoming presence which is evident in the nephews she raised as her children and the relatives who came to live with her. Brenda always kept a clean home and home cooked meals for her family. She would blast her country music and clean all day while the kids went to school and Jordan went to work. Brenda was very strict about her kids attending school. She could be heard from miles away yelling at them to get up. She even locked them out of the house when they would miss the bus. Brenda cherished her role as a grandmother, going above and beyond for them, even raising some of them. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her kids and grandkids, and eventually her great grandchildren. Brenda started a tradition of giving everyone money on their birthday. She always made sure to make her babies feel loved and cherished on their birthdays and special occasions. She often spent money on expensive Christmas Gifts even when her grandkids would protest it was too much, Brenda was adamant that the item was her gift and would demand they bring it to the till. Brenda loved to dote on her grandkids and great grandchildren. She also defended them fiercely and would release the beast when anyone of her loved ones were bullied or picked on. Whenever a new baby was born Brenda made sure they entered this world with a stroller and whatever else was needed. Her love was such a special gift to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
Brenda was definitely one of a kind, once in a million kind of woman who could make you laugh with her crazy stories and wicked sense of humor. She was bold, blunt and sometimes harsh but that was Brenda. You could always count on her to say something unexpected and bring the crowd to tears from laughing so hard. Family events would always include Brenda making all the aunties laugh and their laughter could be heard for hours. If you were feeling down or sad, Brenda could definitely have you laughing in a matter of minutes. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She always attended family and community events. Brenda and her friends were undefeated tug-of-war champs for 6 years in a row at the Lavern Track and Field, even beating their daughters one year.
When Brenda became sick with rheumatoid arthritis her husband Jordan took care of her and she lovingly called him her “Dr. Jordan”. The love Jordan and Brenda had was one of fairy tales. He was her prince charming and she was his queen. Jordans Blackfoot name was “frog” and Brenda’s was “mouse”. On their wedding day Jordan’s brother teased them that the frog ran away with the mouse. They weathered their ups and downs together and eventually tied the knot in 1992. Their wedding was a beautiful momentous occasion where they made their love official before God, which was always Jordan’s goal as a religious man. Jordan passed away in 2010. Brenda loved Jordan so much she never remarried, always stating that Jordan was her one and only. Brenda’s dedication and commitment to her husband after his death was admirable and such a special thing to witness. She often talked about their life together and looked forward to the day they would be reunited. After Jordan passed away her life companion and caregiver was her daughter Jodie. Jodie took care of her mom and spent the last 12 years by her side. During the last few months Brenda moved in with her granddaughter Nikeah and her tribe to receive chemo treatments. Nikeah made sure Brenda made it to every appointment and brought her camping.
Brenda had a special connection and relationship with all those who knew her. She had numerous adopted siblings, children, grandchildren and friends who became family after getting to know her. The family is so appreciative of the love and friendship that was given to Brenda during her time on Earth. She was such a special person and the outpouring of love from all over shows what a phenomenal woman Brenda was.Brenda loved her country music and would always dance or sing along when a good song came on. Brenda will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her loving nature, her fierce protectiveness of her family and friends, her unwavering love for her husband, her unconditional love and support for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her loud laugh and twinkle in her eyes will be missed at family events. Most of all her presence as as the worlds best mom will be forever missed. We cherish the time we had with Brenda and the family would like to thank all those who loved Brenda. The world has lost a great woman and her void is felt deeply by all those who knew her. Her legacy lives on in all those who knew but especially her bloodline. Brenda gave birth to a strong family who will carry on her love of laughter, family and friends.
