Kirby James Plume passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta on June 21, 2023 at the age of 42 years.
For my Uncle Kirby,
I hope that you have found peace in your next chapter of life. I know that you were greeted with open arms and many familiar faces. I know you will continue to share with them your contagious humor and outrageous stories. I know for us, that’s what will be dearly missed when we are sitting here missing you.
I hope that you know from the moment you entered this world on September 23rd, 1980, as Pokaanikapiohkitopii (young boy rides many horses), you imparted the most special gift any parent could receive: the love of a firstborn child and son. I hope that the fatherly bond developed between you and Grandpa Joe, continues to prosper into your next chapter of life in the spirit world. I hope that you know the moment you were placed in Grandma Donna’s belly, you left behind a motherly bond that will last a lifetime. As a baby, the love you received from grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins was constant and unwavering. Throughout your time with us, those memories of your infancy continue to hold a special place in our hearts. That although you continued to grow and grow into a rebellious little boy marching by the beat of his drum, your natural tenderness remained the same.
I hope that you continue to remember the days you welcomed your three younger siblings into this world alongside you. The day the free-spirited boy grew into the protective older brother that we all know and loved. That the companionship developed between you and your eldest sister, Yolaine Bottle, or that the guidance you displayed to your baby sister, Mary Plume, and that the support you gave your only brother, Kyle Plume, leaves behind the memory of an awesome older brother. That your infinity of compassion did not only reach the hearts of your siblings but also the hearts of your numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. And know that the memories you shared with us of the close bond you had with Grandpa Wayne and Grandma Inakii, meant as much to us, as they did to you, because you would beam with so much pride when you shared your cherished memories of being their favorite grandchild and son.
I hope that your various passions and interests continue to flourish and bring you countless joy. From the moment grandma Inakii taught you how to cook scrambled eggs at the young age of 6 years old, it was apparent that cooking would continue to be one of the many love languages that you shared with family. Whether it be at a family dinner, summer barbecue, or holiday feast, your contributions were always noted. From jamming to rap and hip-hop classics of the 90’s and early 2000s to the alternative rock artists of the 1990’s, your love for music and your ability to effortlessly enjoy music had no bounds. You should know that the loud cheering and jumping shared with grandpa Joe while watching an intense sports game continues to echo within our hearts. Most notably, when your favorite hockey team, The Edmonton Oilers, played against grandpa’s favorite hockey team, The Calgary Flames. I know that you and grandpa are now enjoying watching a game together again once again.
I hope that your unique personality developed throughout your adolescence remains the same. That the laugh you produced while pretending to be Mexican because of your full mustache, to dressing as a pimp for Halloween, continues to produce that special pain in our stomachs caused by the endless laughter you produced. That you continue to sport the trendiest items of clothing. That you will always don the fanciest chain, the swiftest sneakers, and the freshest pair of sunglasses.
I hope you know that the nieces and nephews you left behind will always cherish your child-like spirit. Your natural ability to make us feel loved and included. By taking the time to make us feel loved and interested, you made us feel special by taking some of your fatherly love and sharing some of it with us. From sharing your countless stories and memories collected throughout your life, you made us realize that the youthful spirit inside all of us continues to live on as long as we allow it to.
I hope that you know your family loves you very much. And that your three handsome boys, Jaylen Plume, Payton Plume, and Mason Plume, will forever have the honor and wonderful experiences of knowing you as their loving dad. That the love you shared in your youth remains in a special place in someone’s heart. That the love you had for your boy’s is the greatest pride anyone can carry. From the moment grandpa held you to the moment you held your boys, you were creating not only life but a long-lasting love. A type of love that remains evident in the courage your eldest son Jaylen portrays, in the compassion that your second son daddy’s boy Peyton embodies, and in the humor your third boy, your baby Mason expresses. That your spirit continues to live inside of them, we find comfort in knowing that you are holding your rainbow baby Haven Plume right now, and he now has the honor of being raised by the proud dad your three sons were able to enjoy. That despite you leaving too soon, we will all continue to look after and care for your most cherished pride and joy’s your boys.
But despite our hopes, we wish we could’ve had more time with you creating more cherished memories, and for us all to hug you one last time. Time for you to reminisce about your youth into old age. Time to display your gray hair and wrinkly skin. Time to watch your boys grow up into fine young men. Time to witness the next generation you unknowingly impacted. Despite beginning your next chapter of life at 42 years old, Kirby, you left behind the loving memory of a young, welcoming, comical boy for your loved ones to remember.
I hope that despite your trials and tribulations, and your efforts to heal and grow, you are at rest. That you are now being comforted and congratulated for your beautiful life. Above all that, you know you are appreciated for the amazing gift you gave all of us here on Earth.
I hope to see you at the gates of heaven, where we will catch up on all that you have experienced since now.
